What Makes Counterstrike Source Game Servers So Popular For Gamers

By Alfonso Hinton

Before CSS servers, Counterstrike was a very popular game. Many people stuck with 1.6 but others were converted especially when they upgraded their computer and found the graphics were so much better than the old game.

For the tactical snob Counterstrike appeals, as well as offering fast paced free for all. Both work in different environments. You can be up against as little as four, or as many as 32 opponents, so you have to adapt your gaming accordingly. The tactically gaming clans normally stick to 5 versus 5. The standard game has two common map types either demolition or hostage rescue maps with the terrorists and counter terrorists playing their relevant role.

Counterstrike's success is largely based on the many customisations - plugins and addons that have been made available. For example, you can turn your server into death match or a prison break game. The admin tools made available make admin on the server an easy life. Rcon is great for the basics.

The game is as rich for mods as it is custom maps. Some are designed to work specifically for a type of game like death match, fun or prison break. Developers still make custom maps for the original game types with demolition and hostage maps. These maps still prove to be the most popular with gamers.

Counterstrike uses weapons with different advantages and disadvantages from all round the world. The real life weapons are emulated in terms of recoil and power. CS gamers still squabble today as to which weapons are best.

The game has always been easy to run on dedicated servers and many people who wish run multiple servers choose this option out of ease and cost as it is cheaper to rent a dedicated server to run 6 or 7 server than rent them individually. The great thing about running your own dedicated server is you can run the server exactly as you want.

As well as being able to communicate in game by text, you can also use the voice-powered communication tool. The in-game voice can be good for quick communication but lacks any quality. Hardcore gamers generally opt for a dedicated voice server such as Ventrilo or Teamspeak 3. A dedicated voice server offers admin, privacy and control.
