Computer Backpacks Guide

By Frank Muller

Computer backpacks have been popular with the student crowd for decades. It is not surprising these back totes followed the clever graduate to work one day. The manufacturers of backpacks have raced to make their tote the most comfortable and efficient. Discussed are some important suggestions of features to choose when buying a computer backpack.

One of first things manufacturers included in their design was comfort. The straps were made to distribute the weight of a laptop and text books evenly across shoulders. Some totes have one strap, but two straps do the best job of even distribution. Also, wide comfortable straps do not let the bag cut into shoulders when carrying heavier loads.

Carrying a backpack is comfortable when there is a padding that protects the person and the expensive hardware. Padding protects a student or employee's back from the flat computer in the tote hitting against it when moving around. The soft padding protects the computer from getting damaged when the tote gets slung on the floor or a chair.

Toting a laptop calls for extra compartments to carry power cords and any extra cables needed for a quick printer hookup. The bag should also have a place to carry files, especially if on the job. The tote must also provide a compartment for other electronic tools, palm pilot, calculator, pens and pencils. A student also needs a place to pack some school books and notebooks.

The style and material of a tote for the back is a personal preference. The makers of the backpacks often use nylon for its light weight and durability. There are other manufacturers who have ventured into a business look with soft leather. A woman manufacturer created a quilted cotton computer tote for the back in busy flowers and plain colors. The unique tote can even have the initials of the owner embroidered on top.

Manufactures have now converted the backpack by adding wheels and a telescoping handle to quickly change it to rolling luggage. It is great for travel in airports and as a carry on. The casual backpack look becomes a traditional rolling luggage piece that carries the weight on wheels and off the traveler's back.

In summary, the designs of computer backpacks have evolved with the times. They are now comfortable and protective for carrying expensive laptops and the necessary accessories. The packs can be rolled or tossed onto a table and handle the jarring. The styles of leather, nylon, and cotton are up to personal preferences. There are backpacks styled to meet the needs of students and business people.
