Chromebook Sales Shock Critics-The Google Portable computer is a Hit

By Brian Bauer

Ever since Google proclaimed that it was partnering with Samsung and Acer to produce the Google Chromebook there was intense skepticism by critics. Google's first crack at the laptop PC market at first seemed to be an astonishingly bad idea. Writeup after writeup had been released pertaining to the idea that Google had it all wrong and the one of a kind laptop would be a failure. Since the initial release early skeptics have been shocked with the Chromebook outselling all projections.

Recent reports from certain outlets have been that Chromebooks have been moving so quick that they haven't been able to keep them available. Acer has announced that the fast selling laptop PC has been making them scramble as the demand was far larger than expected. Despite the fact that product output has been raised it still has to catch up to the massive demand for these popular mobile units.

Upon Google first revealing what the main concept was behind the Chromebook many skeptics scoffed. The key premise being that the portable computer would cater to consumers that wanted a thin quick mobile notebook that booted up exceedingly fast. Google came up with the model that all data memory would be tied via a cloud service. With the cloud service being somewhat new to consumers many where unsure if would go over.

The issue with the cloud service idea is that if you aren't by a Internet hotspot you can't access any information or saved data. All precious information is stored in a remote location on a server to be available while connected. With the base model cost coming in at $349 many critics pointed out that this was a totally illogical purchase in that for the same money a way more versatile fully functional laptop computer could be bought.

On Google's announcement that it would be introducing the Chromebook amid all the Android tablet fever many envisioned the Chromebook would be a total disaster. Stunning sales figures were released recently from Amazon showing that the Chromebook was actually outselling all competitors. This for many skeptics was a bit of a shock to put it mildly since negative predictions have been flying around the net when Google released the concept behind the Chromebook. It turns out even the skeptics are sometimes wrong. While many would still argue it's still far from the netbooks under 200, only time will tell if the Chromebook is here for the long haul or just the next flash in the pan.
