Time Warner Road Runner vs Comcast Cable Internet, How Will You Know Which Is Better?

By Frederick Sienkiewicz

The Stone Age did not provide a great deal of choice when you talk about access to the Internet. You probably may choose your provider. But no matter what you choose, each offered the same thing, molasses-in-January slow connection speeds. If you were able to experience a 56k modem, you even thought you were FLYING!

Today, you can really say that things are different. Like for example the Internet service that you will choose. It most likely would directly impact the quality and speed you're going to get from it depending on how well that provider can offer. Well I am not talking about the broadband high-speed service you choose against any dial-up connection you might have had because the former will really be way better than the latter.

One of the things I like to do over at my DigitalTVDojo blog is to do some "speed runs" on the various services available (It's a geek thing.) from time to time. This is purely because there are differences no matter how tiny they may be. (At the end of the story, you can see the link going to my blog. Go and check out my blog wherein you get to also see a little secret that will save you hundreds of dollars when you order either service. And unless you make like a thousand dollars an hour or something, then my blog will be worth all your time spent on reading it.)

Just about the other day, I did try one of those speed tests on Comcast Cable Internet and Road Runner High Speed Online from Time Warner. I wanted to test the claims that the two companies were making about how fast their products really are. Well here is all about it...

I had an easy time verifying what the Comcast was saying all because I have the service myself. I went to Bandwidthplace.com and see if they were full of it, and good to know they were not. Well according to Bandwidthplace as far as I could remember, my connection is smoking at 7.6 Mbps. That was completely amazing since it was even faster than Comcast officially says it is. Cool right? Talking about the real world, what could this possibly mean? Well, believe it or not, one typical song lasting for about four minutes can be downloaded in just one second. Pretty cool, right?

You can see a different approach from Time Warner. You see Comcast throws stats out at you, but in Time Warner, it shows you how fast their service is. And that is how they do it. (Do not forget the link is below especially that there are pictures I can show you at my blog. And one more thing, yes you can find out how to save a couple hundred bucks there, too.)

Now this is how the Road Runner High Speed Online shake out. The Roadrunner is actually slower than Comcast at a stated 5 Mbps. In the real world, would it matter? The downloading time of those huge files will still last in seconds. Of course you need not to compare it with a typical dial-up connection, since it is pretty obvious. Say for example a typical webpage with graphics, in dial-up connection it will take around 21 seconds while it takes less than a second with Time Warner. Great difference. It's even crazier to think of downloading a typical video clip, wherein it will take seven minutes to download with a 56k modem, and only seven SECONDS with Time Warner. Well that really made me clear out my mind.

Well once again, this is all about the DigitalTVDojo's review and speed-test comparison of Road Runner High Speed Online and Comcast Cable Internet. Well this hopefully have helped you in your decision making.
