A tablet PC review of Amazon and Sony’s newest tabletsTablet PC Review: Amazon and Sony’s Android based tablets

By Barber Paul

If you've been following thetablet PC market in the last few years, you'd have spotted that it's become quite the battle royale. Manufacturers rush to surpass each other reference speed and features, while keeping their costs competitive. While that's all very well and good for the consumers, it can be a challenge to pick the right one for you. Thus, we'll take an early tablet PC review of the two much awaited tablets from Amazon and Sony.

The Competition

Everybody seems to have made it their private mission to better the Apple iPad 2, and they have come up with their own strategies to take a bite from the iPad's market share. Sony, for instance, is taking a look at it from an entertainment standpoint. Archos has also made a step in the direction of entertainment, with its ninth generation offering that features Hi-D video and supporting 1 or 2 video and audio formats. Many a tablet PC review has indicated that Sony's edge comes from its content; it has its hands on mobile video games, music, and pictures, so giving its users simple access to that should lure the customers.

Amazon, on the other hand, examines it from an alternative angle. The e-business giant is wanting to sell its pc's at a total loss "around the region of 200 $, many times less expensive than the iPad 2. With Amazon's wide range of content, it should also be able to supply the same access to digital content as Sony, with extra content in e-books and ecommerce.

The Hardware

Sony's tablets come in two models, the Tablet S (available now) and the Tablet P (slated for a fall release). The Tablet S will approximately be the same size as an iPad, while the Tablet P will be featuring a twin screen that opens up like a book and will likely be made more portable by its ability to fold. Sony wants to be number one in the Android-based tablet market by next year. It is a little hard to make a tablet PC comparison right now as we haven't begun to see the Tablet P, but we'll see it soon enough.

Amazon's super affordable tablet will run on a custom Android 3.2 O. S and will likely be smaller than an iPad.

Well, as far as the Android-based tablet PC market is concerned consumers have a lot to anticipate. Competition will continue to be stiff, and tablet makers continue their arms race to make the best tablet P.C in the market. If you can't wait to get your hands on these babies, then maybe a tablet PC review or 2 will tide you over until they hit the stores.
