The QR Code And Its Various Uses

By Michael T. Glaspie

QR stands for Quick Response and a QR code is a specific type of barcode consisting of white and black pixels enclosed by a square. This barcode is two-dimensional, stores more information than a traditional UPC barcode and has the ability to translate that information into text or graphics for display. A mobile phone or some other electronic handheld device retrieves the date rapidly, which is why the word quick is in the name.

The QR code has a variety of applications. It is a good substitute for business cards because it is so versatile. The code can store an infinite amount of data, unlike a business card, which has limited space due to its size. Information stored on the code can include photos, business history, list of services, product lists and other similar information that traditionally required a full press kit to cover.

Another use for QR codes is in print advertisements. These are useful for advertisers since if they use these codes, they can put additional data for the viewer than what is shown in their ads. An ad displaying a brand name and a model, for example, can put a QR code that links to their website, to show the visitor which goods are on sale or which are the newest in stock.

Obviously, many of these codes appear in the products that you buy, too. Computer apps and grocery store items both have QR codes on them, as these have come to replace traditional barcodes. These new code not only tell you the price of the item, but can also provide other pertinent information, as well: sometimes they can even list customer support information, such as troubleshooting instructions or links and phone numbers for customer support websites and contact.

Now that you know some facts about the QR code, you can more appreciate the development of information technology. Additionally you can benefit from its features for yourself, since now there are QR code programs that let you design your own personal codes. You can use them for your own company, or just apply it on a shirt, to tell other individuals more about yourself.
