Are You an Android OS Expert?

By Frank T. Newcrest

If you keep up at all with news in the cellular world, you will know that, in terms of popularity, the Android OS is currently gaining on the Blackberry and the iPhone systems. This is partly because the Android OS is used in a wide variety of phones. This might also be because the operating system itself is constantly being worked on, upgraded and developed which makes it highly competitive against the other smart phone OSes that are on the market. The Android/Google phones are set apart from their smart phone competitors because, unlike the iPhones and Blackberries, the Android phones are available in widely varied styles and types of extensiveness in the software. You might find the following information interesting about the Android and the Google phones.

As I've said before, this is the exact type of topic I like to talk about. You may have read the article about spy on text messages which is a great example!

Unlike the iPhone, arguably the most popular smart phone on the market, you can purchase Android phones from every wireless provider on the market. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint?they all sell Android OS phones and usually have them available in multiple models. This is fantastic news for people who do not have access to a particular carrier in their community or who don't want to be forced to use a single carrier. Things might be different a few years from now when the iPhone is available outside of one provider but right now the Android OS phones are the most widely available smart phone. Android OS phones sell more units than iPhones. In six states, especially, the phones that use the Android OS are vastly outselling iPhones. The only problem with this study is that the states with higher Android sales are more rural and are likely to not have very good AT&T coverage. The iPhone is currently only available through AT&T so that might have something to do with the numbers. When (if?) AT&T ever loses its iPhone contract exclusivity the numbers will probably change and the study will most likely be redone.

Advertisers are more likely to advertise their wares on phones using the Android OS. You probably aren't surprised by this information. The Google advertising network is widespread and reaches the whole internet. Would it really be surprising to learn that advertisers would want to take advantage of the mobile market in the same way? Google has gotten a lot of its fame because of its advertising. You should not be surprised if your phone suddenly starts showing advertisements from time to time. For the most part, phones with the Android OS are cheaper than their popular smart phone counterparts. iPhones and Blackberries are usually sold for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. At the same time, lots of the cellular phone providers are letting their customers take home the Android phones free of charge as a reward for renewing their contracts. This gives you all of the smart phone options you want without having to spend nearly as much money. Helping people save money is a great way to shine brighter than the competitors. After all, there is no reason to spend three or four hundred dollars if you do not have to.

So don't believe anyone who tells you that you can only use music if you have an iPhone.

We can think of a whole bunch of reasons to choose an Android phone over the other smart phones that are being sold right now. Simply put: the Android OS is great! We don't say this just because we're fans; we say it because it is true. Updates are available all the time for the Android OS and, because the system is based on open source technology, anybody and everybody is welcome to develop apps and other features for it. Any day now, the Android phone is going to surpass its smart phone competitors and become the most popular phone available. Soon the Google phone will, no doubt, become at least as popular (if not more popular) than the "traditional" smart phone models.
