Eight Things an Android mobile phone is able to do that the iPhone cannot!

By Erika Smith-Jones

The controversy among Android and iPhone is getting as worn and boring as the endless debate between Microsoft Windows and OS X. However, as passionate Android enthusiasts we thought we would assemble a detailed list on 8 items that an Android phone is capable of that an iPhone can't.

1. Openness: The Android os is open source and backed by Google. This provides software programmers and smartphone manufacturers complete freedom to modify and customize the source as they would like. This allows them to build interesting, ground breaking new applications. There is no limit to what a programmer or smartphone manufacturer is capable of doing with Android.

2. Tight Integration With Google Apps: Even while we cannot refute that Google's scatter gun technique of building web applications and services leaves all of us dazed and confused, there are a few invaluable tools at our disposal like Transliteration, Google Books, Google Scribe, Walky Talky and the ever nerdy Sky Map. One app that will likely never reach the iPhone is Google Maps Navigation. All of these applications are free and operate flawlessly on any Android mobile.

3.Personalized To You: Using the iPhone you'll have any screen layout you wish so long as it's arranged with a 4 column grid. Does not sound truly user friendly. Android lets you pimp out ones experience with widgets and arrange the dashboard as you would like. Widgets may contain a group of apps and expand when selected.

4. Battery Saving: Android boasts the best power saving capabilities in the smartphone market place built directly in to the operating system. There is no need to download extra apps, the device maximizes battery life in the background.

5. Connectivity: In contrast to the iPhone you aren't tethered to your iTunes profile and may connect and use on any kind of computer. This openness makes the Android smartphone the final word in usefulness.

6. Kill Switch: In the click of a button, Google can distribute a signal to all the Android phones in order to kill all rogue applications. This keeps your phone protected at all times and you will rest assured knowing Google is on your side.

7. Flash Player: Apple Inc. is anti-Flash, we realize that. But, how about the tens of millions of folks who have to be inconvenienced as a result of Apple Inc's whims? Android doesn't place any boundaries on the form of media you are able to view.

8. Security: Android is an open source platform. This implies that there are a countless number of programmers critiquing the code continually. When you use the effectiveness of a global development community like this, security flaws are discovered and fixed speedily. Additionally, Google Android can patch itself automatically without the need to be attached to Apple iTunes.

These are merely 8 items which we think an Android phone or tablet can achieve that an iPhone cannot. How many other ways do you know of that helps make the Android phone superior?
